It is Summer time.  It’s time to show some skin and spend some cash.  Let us help you lose your shirt and stuff your pockets.

Today marks the ground breaking ceremony for our Summer Meltdown Challenge!
The challenge will run from July 12, 2010- September 1st, 2010

The Rules

- Online daily food logs are REQUIRED, and will be publicly viewable
- Winner will be determined by comparing Before and After pictures to see best overall improvement in physique
- Trainers will determine top 3 male and female improvements
- Summer Metldown Participants will vote on the male and female winners

To sign up find a trainer and shell out your entry fee and get on the mailing list.  Luke will be giving 30-45 minute nutrition “talks” in the Meltdown orientation in the back room all week at 7pm.

What’s the point?

Our mission at CrossFit of Naperville is to improve our clients’ lifestyle.  Many if not all of you have indicated that you want to “lose weight” which we translate into “improve body composition” because it’s not how much your body weighs, but what its actually made up of, i.e. weigh 200 lbs and look like a pear, or 210 lbs and look like a Greek God/Goddess! (can you say run on sentence?)

Weight loss is only a potential side affect of our Summer Meltdown Challenge, it’s not the gauge.  That’s why this is not a “biggest loser” challenge, and the scale will NOT be gauging your success.  In fact, if you own one I suggest you put it up for sale on eBay and try to make a buck, or bring it in to the gym and smash it, as it’s worthless.  I will do the smashing.

Ultimately, we’d like you adopt healthier eating habits.  We don’t want anyone dieting.  Rather, we want to see lifestyle changes.  Something sustainable and enjoyable.

Why meal logs?

First and foremost, we are in this together and we are making a commitment to a lifestyle change.  This isn’t easy.  Sharing your successes and your failures (cookies!!!!) with your community can help people get out of a rut as well as make you think twice before driving through the local fast food joint.

Secondly, it helps the trainers understand what may or may not be working for you.  During our Paleo Challenge, meal logs were not required and clients had a difficult time successfully articulating what they were eating when they had any trouble.  Also, those who kept the meal logs made the most progress!

While we suggest a Paleo foundation to eating as it’s simple and inarguably healthy, feel free to exercise whatever nutritional protocol you’d like (Paleo, Zone, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig).  We are not grading you on what you eat, rather what improvements you make.  However, our ability to provide any sort of nutritional guidance will be based off of the science behind Paleo eating.

Meal log entries can be as simple as “Sandwich and Fruit with water” or can be measured out to the exact serving size of each ingredient.  However, YOU MUST POST YOUR MEALS.

A link to the meal log will be added to the main page shortly.

Scoring

We will be snapping your “before” pictures this week, and your “after” pictures between August 30th – September 1st (NO EXCEPTIONS).  We suggest swim suits for the pictures.  The more you show the easier it is to gauge improvement.  Try to wear the same type of clothing for the before and after pictures.

Trainers will be the only ones to see the pictures until final judging.  Then other competitors wil vote on the top 3 photos with your consent.  If you choose not to share pictures for voting, then you will be bowing out of the competition.

We had great turnout and a great results in our Paleo Challenge, so lets see the same participation and even more dedication this time around.  This is your opportunity to make a change to your lifestyle that will better your performance and abilities inside the gym, as well as outside in the “real world.”

Good luck, and come find us with any questions!

Is there a way to scale for pregnant people? ;)

  2. Luke says:

only for pregnant men… sorry you’re out of luck!

  3. Meghan says:

Anne and I were wondering if our broke butts could enter the challenge and pay the fee but do the WOD at home without membership. Also because I’ll be out of town for half that time and work nights.

    Meghan,
You are welcome to participate and do the workouts on your own. This challenge doesn’t measure changes in performance, only change in body composition.

So the only “firm” requirements are that you get into the gym for the before and after picutres, you pay the entry fee, and you keep the online food log.

If you’re looking to win the competition (which I think EVERY participant should be!), it’s going to require a lot more than that. This is about a lifestyle change. You’ll need to:
1.) Bust your ass during your workouts
2.) Be disciplined and COMMITED to your nutition protocol
3.) Commit to a solid rest and recovery protocol i.e. get good SLEEP and don’t overtrain

All that can be done outside of the gym, however coming into the gym and having the support group makes it more obtainable. I would reccomend you at least come to the free saturday workouts.

Let me know if you are still interested, or have any other questions…

    -Luke
