Grass Fed Beef – Who’s wants to “cow-pool”?

I wanted to throw up a quick post to see who might be interested. Me, John Duncan, Melissa Mills (and her boy), and Chris Ashe split a half cow 4 ways, and each of us recieved an “eighth” of a cow from Flying-S beef. The beef was great, very delicious!
We were invoiced for 2 quarters… it was 268lbs @ 3.50/lb… total to $938.00
Delivery was 15%.
They use the “dry hanging weight” to calculate pricing, which is a bit different from packaged weight. 1/8 of a cow yielded about 50lbs of packaged ready to cook meat. we split the cost evenly down the middle four ways, and i ended up paying about an average of 5.39/lb for a variety of cuts including round steak, flank steak, fillet, extra lean ground beef, arm roast, rump roast, and the cuts go on. This really is a good price compared to what you’d pay for some of these cuts “grass fed” out of the grocery store
If you do decide to order, your actual packaged weight is going to depend on how big the cow you get is.
Poke around www.flying-s.com/beef for more info.
Penny is who i talk to over there, and she is very helpful. She contacted me and said they are going to slaughter 12 cows, and 7 are taken. Delivery will be in June, and depending on how large our order is we can probably get it dropped off at the gym.
